BASIC REHABILITATION

Orientation and mobility

Ориентиране и мобилностThe loss of sight, fully or partially always leads to restricting the individual from moving independently in the space around. This restriction becomes greater in a direct ratio to the degree of the injured eyesight which is followed by long depressive condition and ceased moving which are often being turned into permanent psycho-physically and social trauma for the person. That’s why the question about the re- validation of the visually disabled in the field of mobility is being done with the aim to recover their abilities for orientation and moving in the space. With its solving will be defined also the degree of re-socialization of the personality of the individual, that is to say to be defined his/her position in society considering the newly created situation.

The training in mobility puts forward the following concrete tasks:

  1. Building positive motives for self- orientating and self- moving in the space.

  2. Developing and practically using compensatory analyzing systems in the process of spatial orientation and moving.

  3. Acquiring new modern techniques for self- orientation and self- moving in the small and big space.

  4. Acquiring skills for using modern technical and electronic devices for orientating in the space.

  5. Gaining command of routes.

Persons being rehabilitated who need self- moving but cannot fully orientate and cannot move using their partial eyesight with or without the help of visual devices are also liable to training in mobility.

Ориентиране и мобилност 2In the training in mobility a strictly individual approach is being applied which gives an account of practical experience of the trainee, his/her rehabilitation potential and most important his/her concrete, real needs and problems in the field of the spatial orientation and moving.
Mobile skills are being built in the other rehabilitation disciplines as well especially in the knowledge of physical culture.

Despite the fact that the training is individual the program involves as well the so called group mobility. Topics for group discussions and seminars are being offered- in these they may participate not only the ones who are being trained in mobility but also people who are not liable to training. There are also group lessons foreseen for visiting objects and performing training exercises for using terrains with different pave in park surroundings, out of town environment and so on. The seminar lessons for group mobility amount to one hour per week and the hours for the training group lessons are being defined by the teacher in accordance with the task that should be performed.
